Help with choosing
Which press for which profile?
Your ideal press depends on three criteria: your production volume, your budget, and the techniques you use. Here are our direct recommendations.
I'm starting out — on a tight budget
Manual press
Ideal for starting out with reasonable volumes. Manual opening and closing. Minimal investment.
✓ DTF ✓ Sublimation ✓ Flex
Growing activity
Electromagnetic press
Automatic opening at the end of the cycle. Guaranteed pressing time. Parallel operation possible.
What size tray should I choose for DTF t-shirt printing? +
For an adult t-shirt in A3 format (29.7 x 42 cm), a platen of at least 40 x 50 cm is recommended. A 38 x 38 cm platen (Secabo TC5 Lite) is sufficient for A4 format but will be too small for some A3 designs. If you regularly work in A3, opt for the Secabo TC7 Lite or the TD7 Smart (40 x 50 cm).
Can a heat press be used for both sublimation AND DTF? +
Yes, a good heat press with precise temperature (between 120°C and 210°C), time, and pressure settings is versatile. It's suitable for DTF, textile sublimation, flex printing, flocking, and screen printing. The difference lies in the parameters used—see our pressing conditions sheet for each technique.
What is the difference between a heat press and a mug press? +
A standard heat press works on flat surfaces (textiles, sheets, puzzles). A mug press is designed to wrap around a cylindrical object : it heats the mug evenly all around for 3 minutes at 200°C. If you are sublimating ceramic mugs, a dedicated mug press is essential for flawless results.
Is it better to start with a manual or electromagnetic press? +
If your budget is really tight and you're making fewer than 20 pieces per session, a manual press will suffice. As soon as you start making them regularly, an electromagnetic or electric press becomes essential: the automatic opening ensures the correct pressing time and frees up your hands to prepare the next piece. The additional investment quickly pays for itself in terms of comfort and quality.
Can a heat press be used for sublimation on rigid objects? +
Yes, for flat objects: puzzles, mouse pads, tiles, slates, metal plates, wood, acrylic photo blocks. For objects with specific shapes (bowls, espresso cups), use a heat-shrink bag in a 3D oven or a conventional oven at 180°C (350°F) for 15 minutes. Find all our sublimation-compatible materials in the Sublimation Universe category.
